Assignment 6 - The Midterm Project

Button Symbols

Create a 4 or 5 scene movie with at least 4 of these scenes:

  1. button symbol from a shape with 4 different states (color changes, etc. on all states)
  2. button from text with defined HIT state as a rectangle
  3. movie clip symbol with 4 instances of the clip on the stage with different attributes such as: one with a tint, one with an alpha from 20% - 80%, one rotated, one tiny, one distorted, one flipped
  4. an invisible button, nothing in the over state, used over a graphic
  5. button symbol with sound on one or more states
  6. button symbol with animation in one or more states

If you are using the recommended textbook, do the lesson in Chapter 3 - Flash Symbols and Libraries.

Add 12 frames at the end of each scene.  Insert a keyframe at the end of all frames on each scene so each scene displays for viewing for a couple of seconds before the playback head moves to the next scene. You may post your scenes.swf file to the Discussion area and reflect on the process.

The Flash Midterm Project

The Flash Midterm will demonstrate your comprehension of the following Flash features:

  • Flash animation and timeline features such as motion tweening, shape tweening, and motion guides.
  • Flash symbols such as buttons with different visual cues in different mouse states.
  • User Interface Design.
  • Flash symbols as reusable elements for efficiency in file creation and file size.

You may attach your symbols and midterm.swf file to the Discussions area.

Solution to the Midterm Project

Midterm Screen

Click here for a few sample model solutions from previous students for this Midterm Project. It's best if your buttons are evenly distributed and if the text labels to the left of the buttons are included in the hit state of each button. In other words, when a user rolls over one of the four words, the associated button for that word should display a visual cue such as a color change.
