Lesson 3 The Flash Timeline - Overview

Description

You have been introduced to the Flash drawing tools and know that Flash is a vector-based drawing program. You learned that you can modify and transform shapes, lines, and fills. You know that when two shapes of the same color overlap, strange things can happen when you try to separate them. You know that grouping your shapes prevent this from happening. Grouping also enables you to move your objects and have them appear to transform in color, location, size, or opacity.

In this lesson, you will apply your vector art to the timeline. The timeline is a visual representation of your artwork over time and it is where you'll be managing your graphics to create simple "tweened" animations.

Objectives

By the end of this lesson, you will successfully:

  •  use Scenes to structure your movies.
  •  create Symbols and Groups.
  •  be able to discuss the advantages of vector vs. bitmap image with colleagues.
  •  submit a Flash movie of motion tweened objects over a series of scenes.

Make the Connection

When you think about animation, what techniques do you think about? Cel-Animation? Timeline? Visual Perception Tricks such as change in location, size, color, opacity, and morphing? With Flash, you can do all these things. In this course, you will learn the basics of creating and importing images in Flash and the pros and cons of each.

Resources - Extend your Learning

These websites include information about motion tweening or morphing color, location, or size, as well as bitmap and vector images on the web. Visit them to expand your knowledge about Flash motion tweening.
