Lesson 4.5 Quick Tween Review

  • Objects must be grouped or made into symbols before you can motion tween.
  • Put each object to be tweened on its own layer named with something descriptive.
  • If you edit a symbol, all instances of that symbol will reflect the changes on stage.
  • To tween the alpha values of a symbol use the Color: drop-down menu on the Properties Panel.
  • Shape Tweening is PROCESSOR intensive. Use it sparingly for small vector shape effects.

Gradients can increase your file size dramatically.

Shape Tween vs. Motion Tween

SHAPE TWEEN MOTION TWEEN
tweens broken apart shapes into different shapes tweens groups or symbols without altering them
changes color of objects changes the transparency or tint of objects appearing to change the color
moves objects while altering them can follow a motion guide
uses more computer processing units (CPUs) than motion tweens so if you just want motion and apparent color changes, use motion tweening

Creating and Saving .fla Files

Flash files in the native Flash format are saved as .fla files. There are a few ways to create .swf files from .fla files. In the beginning of the course, use the Control + Enter keys or Command + Return on Mac. This will save the movie as a .swf file in the same folder as your originating .fla file.

  • Use scenes to separate all the required assignments into one .fla file.
  • Use Control Menu - Control>Test Movie to save a copy of your .fla file to .swf file.

Here are a few student samples for Homework 4.
Please use original art work and layout for your Assignments.

This is the last section of this lesson. Please proceed to the Assignments area.
