Description

Right now, everything that you design and put on the stage is visible when the playback head reaches the frame that has the objects on the stage. Masking is a special effect technique that enables you to hide and reveal objects within a specific shape or mask.

In this Lesson, you will learn how to use masks to reveal objects as they move across the area of a defined window. Masking can add the illusion of depth to a two-dimensional (2-D) animation program.

Objectives

By the end of this Lesson, you will successfully:

  • create a Mask Layer and associated Masked Layer to reveal objects on the stage.
  • demonstrate the effects of using Device Fonts with Masking.
  • structure a Navigation System of Buttons for non-linear interaction.
  • create an animated Mask Layer.
  • create an animated Masked Layer.

Make the Connection

Think of a mask as a window in which the objects outside appear. The objects are always outside the window, but you can only see them when you look through the window.  How would this technique be effective for your project?  How have you seen it being used effectively?
