Licensing of Open Content:

The open content published in the Sofia project web site will be licensed under   Creative Commons Licenses. Faculty will retain ownership and copyright of the course materials that will be published in the Sofia project web site. The terms of distribution and modification will be determined by the authors of the works. Foothill-De Anza  retains ownership only when district resources were used to develop course content.

Infringement Notification:

Faculty will take final responsibility for their published materials. It would be difficult for Sofia staff to guarantee the accuracy and originality of materials we receive for consideration. Prior to accepting any course materials for open publication, our staff will ask faculty to sign a letter verifying ownership of the course material submitted. In addition, faculty will select the terms of a Creative Commons License prior to making their material openly available on the Web. We will promptly remove any material that is determined to be infringing on the rights of others.

If you believe that a portion of Sofia materials infringes another's copyright, please notify Sofia by email. If you do not include an electronic signature with your claim, you may be asked to send or fax a follow-up copy with a signature. To file the notification, you must be either the copyright owner of the work or an individual authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner. Your notification must include:

1. Identification of the copyrighted work, or, in the case of multiple works at the same location, a representative list of such works at that site.

2. Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity. You must include sufficient information, such as a specific URL or other specific identification, for us to locate the material.

3. Information for us to be able to contact the claimant (e.g., email address, phone number).

4. A statement that the claimant believes that the use of the material has not been authorized by the copyright owner or an authorized agent.

5. A statement that the information in the notification is accurate and that the claimant is, or is authorized to act on behalf of, the copyright owner.

Privacy:

Foothill-De Anza Community College District (Foothill-De Anza ) respects each individual’s right to personal privacy.  We will collect and use information through our web site only in the ways disclosed in our privacy statement. This statement applies solely to information collected at the Sofia project web site managed by Foothill-De Anza  personnel.

Trademarks:

"Sofia," the "Sharing of Free Intellectual Assets," ETUDES, "Easy to Use Distance Education Software," and its logos are registered and unregistered trademarks of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District. All other brand names and logos that appear throughout the Sofia web pages and course materials are marks owned by third parties.
